Texas House approves incentives for

The Texas House has approved legislation (HB 800) to authorize sales tax exemptions and franchise tax credits -- estimated at $255 million for the next two fiscal years -- to encourage research and development activities in the state. -
Virginia Tax Commissioner Outlines Upcoming Sales and Use Tax Changes, Taxanalysts (May 1, 2013)**
The Virginia tax commissioner has issued guidelines for sales and use tax increases effective July 1, 2013, as imposed by HB 2313; the statewide sales tax rate will increase by 0.3 percent, and the sales tax rate in Hampton Roads and Northern Virginia will increase by an additional 0.7 percent. -
Florida Governor pushes to eliminate
taxes for manufacturers, Taxanalysts (April 29, 2013)**
An April 29 statement from Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) highlights his plan to eliminate the sales tax that manufacturers pay when purchasing equipment in the state to improve the state's 4.2 percent manufacturing employment figure, which puts the state below its southeastern competitors and in the bottom 10 states in the nation. -
Georgia provides incentives for
growing businesses, zoological parks, tourist attractions, Taxanalysts (April 29, 2013)**
Georgia HB 318, Act 86, amends the administration and funding of the Invest Georgia Fund, which assists some developing businesses headquartered in the state; extends the angel investor tax credit to 2015 and caps it at $5 million; and offers a sales tax exemption for some zoological institutions and tourist attractions.
